Want to try a partner dance? Are you an absolute beginner with little or no experience? Trying to get some exercise while just having a blast? Lindy hop is a wonderful, joyful dance for all ages! This dance comes to us from the ballrooms of Harlem where Black dancers and musicians pioneered this incredible art form.

Please join us for a 6-week progressive series where you will be introduced to lindy hop fundamentals (no partner or previous experience required!). In this class, we will start from square one, going step by step to get you moving with some confidence and rhythm on the dance floor. We will cover basic 6-count and 8-count Lindy Hop and Charleston, and all the fundamental skills needed to have a great time on the dance floor!

For an example of lindy hop, watch us at summer waterfront dancing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuqRQWcUJ44

Have you taken Lindy 1, or have done a lot of social dancing and want to take your Lindy Hop to the next level? Please join us for a 6-week progressive series where we will take your dancing to the next level, no partner required. In this class, we will work on expanding your ability to connect to the music and our partners, and show you cool variations to moves you’re already familiar with. At the end of these classes, you will be dancing to a larger range of music tempos, and will have more tools to express yourself on the dance floor.

This is a 6 week progressive series, so no drop-ins. $45 for the series

Prerequisites: As this is a progressive class, at a more difficult level, some prior dance experience is required. Previous attendance of a Lindy 1, Lindy 2, or Charleston class series, or medium dance experience are recommended.

Blues

Dates: TBD

Time: 7:30-8:30pm

Price: $30

Location: Studley Dance Studio

We’re bringing back Blues! Join Gaby as she takes you through the basics of Blues. What is Blues? Blues dancing is a genre of partner dance that originated in the African American communities in the early 20th century. It is characterized by an emphasis on improvisation, a strong connection between partners, and a deep emotional connection to the music, making it a unique and expressive form of social dance. Join us and learn something new!

Modules

Blues Module with Jill
CA$15.00

Jill is a long time blues dancer and will be teaching slow drag blues fundamentals!
Slow drag is in some ways the ‘original’ blues dance idiom created by Black Americans as blues music inspired dancers in the crowded juke joints of the Mississippi Delta in the late 1800s. In the early 20th century, as the Great Migration brought Black musicians and dancers north for greater opportunity, dancers adapted the slow drag to travel around the ballroom to jazz blues and Latin rhythms of the big bands. Join us to explore the stylings and techniques slow drag creates for dancers.

Location: Sheila K. Piercey Studio at Dalhousie Arts Centre 6101 University Ave

Date: October 29th 2025

Time: 7pm - 9pm

Levels:

  • For beginners, ideally you will have some experience in partner dance (extemporaneous like Swing Dance (Lindy/West Coast)/Latin/Kizomba is better than predicted patterned and more formal like Ball Room) so that you are familiar with feeling and reacting to connection and moving to music. In addition, plan for close connection so if you have personal space boundary issues, or someone has ever indicated to you that you have failed to read their boundaries, this might be challenging. If this is your first dance experience, try to make it out to one of our socials beforehand.

  • For experienced dancers, Jill has a wide breadth of experience in this dance, and tends to bring out something different at every presentation, so there is likely to be something in addition to the opportunity to practice your adaptation to dancing with all levels in the presence of an experienced coach

Lindy Hop 3
from CA$15.00

An Improver class for anyone looking to improver beyond Lindy 2. Gaby will be teaching Swing outs, musicality, and connection improvement.
